International Youth Day 2026 - Different Contexts, Common Aspirations

This International Youth Day, the Shah Family Foundation is celebrating the ambition, resilience, and potential of young people around the world. The 2026 theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” highlights a shared truth: while youth face different circumstances and challenges depending on where they live, many share the same hopes. Access to quality education, meaningful opportunities, and the ability to shape a brighter future.

Through our partnership with One Girl Can, the Shah Family Foundation supports university scholarships for high-potential young women in Kenya, helping break down financial barriers that can prevent talented students from pursuing higher education. In many rural communities where One Girl Can works, poverty and gender inequality continue to limit educational opportunities for girls, despite their determination, leadership potential, and drive to succeed.

The One Girl Can University Scholarship Program provides more than tuition assistance. Scholarships support students with essential resources, including living expenses, laptops, and school supplies, while also providing access to leadership development, mentorship, coaching, and internship opportunities. These combined supports help young women build the skills, confidence, and networks needed to succeed in their studies, careers, and communities.

Since launching with just two scholarships in 2013, the program has grown to support more than 425 young women pursuing university education. By investing in their education and leadership potential, One Girl Can is helping create opportunities that extend beyond individual students, strengthening families, communities, and future generations.

This International Youth Day, the Shah Family Foundation is proud to support initiatives that expand access to education and empower young people to reach their full potential. While the experiences of young people may differ, the aspirations to learn, lead, and create positive change are shared across borders.
